The Short

CNC3 reports approval for Canaan Presbyterian’s Standard Five pupils to use a church hall after fire damage to the school. Temporary accommodation for other classes and checks on the remaining buildings are still being arranged. A confirmed classroom restart date has not been independently established.

The Full Story

A fire destroyed Canaan Presbyterian School’s main classroom block in Duncan Village, San Fernando, on 14 October, according to CNC3. The school subsequently faced disruption while temporary accommodation and the safety of its remaining buildings were considered.

The publisher reports a structural assessment following a ministerial visit on 26 October. Further reports on safe use of the remaining buildings and electricity restoration were still expected in the account reviewed.

In its report published late on 3 November, CNC3 quotes a Presbyterian Primary Schools’ Board official saying the Education Ministry approved use of a church hall for Standard Five pupils. The Board and Ministry were continuing arrangements for other classes. The report also carries parental concern about lost classroom teaching time. Its relative reference to classes resuming “today” does not supply an unambiguous calendar restart date at this publication time; no independent confirmation that all classes have resumed was obtained.
