The Full Story
Chaguanas developed from a sugar-producing community into one of Trinidad and Tobago’s largest municipalities. Its proposed elevation to city status would give a new formal description to that growth, but the change had not been completed in the account reviewed on 28 October.

Speaking to TTT News on 27 October, Mayor Faaiq Mohammed said traffic congestion was a central concern. He pointed to a government-backed traffic project and said the borough intended to tackle the worst flooding and road problems first. His comments describe priorities; they do not establish that those works have been completed.
Mohammed also described repairs to the downtown Chaguanas Market and support for its vendors. A formal city-status decision, a schedule for the road and drainage works, and details of the traffic project would show how the announced priorities become services for residents and businesses.
