The Short

TTT reports that 13 children received free cardiac procedures at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex from 2 to 4 November through a programme involving the NCRHA and Caribbean Heart Care.

The Full Story

A specialist programme at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex provided free cardiac procedures for 13 children between Monday 2 and Wednesday 4 November, according to an account published by TTT on Thursday evening and attributed to the North Central Regional Health Authority.

The account says seven children underwent surgery for congenital heart conditions, while six received minimally invasive corrective procedures in the hospital’s cardiac catheterisation laboratory. Local clinicians worked with a visiting volunteer team coordinated by Caribbean Heart Care.

TTT also carries the authority’s response to concerns about one infant’s care: it says an additional intervention was promptly addressed by the specialist team. That is the authority’s account; this report does not establish each child’s subsequent condition or an independently assessed clinical outcome. No patient identities or photographs are reproduced.
