The Full Story
According to the Express report published on 4 November, Tunapuna MP and Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander said constituents had brought him receipts dating to 2024 for housing-related charges. He described TT$700 as a search fee and TT$120 as a processing fee, totalling TT$820 per applicant.

Alexander questioned why the payments were reportedly required before applicants knew whether they would receive a home. He said he intended to raise the matter with Housing Minister David Lee. The Express said it sought responses from Lee and the HDC chairman but had no immediate reply. The receipts themselves and an approved fee schedule have not been reviewed by Luk It Hyah; this is a reported request for scrutiny, not a finding of fraud or an announced investigation.

HDC’s published FAQ says it does not accept money to fast-track home ownership and describes selection, assessment, approval and later payment stages. That general guidance does not determine whether the particular search and processing charges described by Alexander were authorised or who received them. A dated fee policy, the receipts and HDC’s response are needed to resolve that question.
