Mumbai Indians Name Kieron Pollard Head Coach

The Full Story

Mumbai Indians announced Kieron Pollard’s appointment as head coach on 24 October. The move gives the former West Indies white-ball captain responsibility for the franchise’s senior coaching direction after his previous batting-coach role. This is a club appointment, not a return to the West Indies national-team coaching staff. The Sunday Guardian carried the news in its 25 October edition; the club’s own announcement is the original record.

Pollard’s association with Mumbai Indians predates the new job. The club said he joined as a young player, later served as batting coach and is now being promoted. Its 2022 announcement recorded his retirement from playing in the IPL and move to that batting role. The International Cricket Council separately records his retirement from international cricket in April 2022. Those earlier changes explain the coaching path without implying he had already held the head-coach position.

The club’s co-owner Nita Ambani described the appointment as a continuation of Pollard’s long association with Mumbai Indians. Pollard said in the club statement that he wants to help players develop and build on its history. Those are intentions at the start of a new role, not measured performance. Readers should distinguish the announcement date, 24 October, from this article’s 25 October publication date; future coverage can assess his actual tenure and results once the team plays under his direction.
