The Full Story

Trinidad and Tobago contractor NH International Caribbean signed a reported US$243 million contract with the St Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority on 20 October for expansion of Hewanorra International Airport, according to the Sunday Guardian’s business report. The plan includes a three-storey passenger terminal beside the existing facility and associated airside works. The signing is a contract milestone, not evidence that the terminal is finished or that all financing and construction risks have disappeared.

The paper says the new terminal is planned at about 274,000 square feet, with five contact gates and room for later expansion. It gives late 2029 as the completion target. NH chairman Emile Elias says the company intends to use St Lucian contractors, suppliers and workers where possible. Those employment and local-content intentions can be assessed later against actual procurement and workforce records. The existing airport terminal is expected to continue operating during the works.

This is local business news because a Trinidad and Tobago construction firm won a large regional project. Readers should distinguish the reported US-dollar contract price from any eventual final cost and watch for published milestones from the St Lucia authority. The Guardian compares unit-cost estimates with Tobago’s airport, but the projects may have different scopes; the comparison is not a verified measure of value for money.
