The Short

The Full Story

The government said on 21 October that it was reviewing the On-the-Job Training programme after it moved under the Ministry of Public Utilities. TTT News reported Minister Barry Padarath’s plan to better align trainee intake with ministries’ needs and to work with the Ministry of Public Administration on digital application records and an online application system. He said the programme had more than 4,000 trainees and that current trainees could complete their tenure.

The earlier report described a paper-based process and a container used to store application forms. Padarath said some applications were more than five years old and applicants might have to register again. The amount he cited for container rental was his claim in that account; the reviewed material did not include a contract or an audited cost. No application portal or revised intake policy was announced as operational.

On Tuesday 27 October, I.A.N Network reported that Padarath toured OJT facilities with senior officials and representatives of MTS. Its account says he promised changes to staff working conditions and repeated the plan to digitise administration and better match the programme to public-sector needs. The visit is a new reported step, but the post supplies no completed works, implementation timetable or published policy statement. Those would be the measures of progress after the tour.
