By the Luk It Hyah newsdesk · Sources · Reporting disclaimer

The Short

US prosecutors say a Trinidad and Tobago national living in Texas has been charged over an alleged vote in the 2024 federal election. The announcement is an accusation, not a finding of guilt.

The Full Story

In a release dated 30 October, the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas identified the defendant as Ali Khan, 33, of La Porte. It said he was charged in Houston with voting by a non-citizen in a federal election.

The release describes five separate defendants from Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria and Mexico facing election-related allegations. It does not establish a coordinated scheme between them.

No court decision or defence response was obtained for this summary. The prosecutor’s release itself states that an accusation is not evidence and that defendants are presumed innocent unless convicted through due process. Further court developments would be added to this report.
